When editing only one part of a site, youshould generally choose to download dependent files.5 Proceed as if creating a site from scratch: edit documents, preview and testthem, and upload them again to the remote site.Viewing and opening files in the Site windowUse the Site window for viewing local and remote sites, adding or removing sitedocuments, or laying out the navigational structure of your site with a site map.For more information, see About the Site window on page 144.You can set each of the two Site window panes to show the local site, the remotesite, or a graphical map of the local site.For example, you can view the local site inone pane and the remote site in the other, or you can view the local site in filesview in one pane, and in map view in the other pane.(For information on viewingsite maps, see Viewing the site structure on page 127.)Viewing local sitesThe Site window can display the contents of both local and remote sites.Localsites are displayed as a list of files, a visual map, or both.Remote sites are displayedonly as a list of files.Before you can view a remote site, you must set one up; see Setting up a remote site on page 140.Creating Sites and Documents 81To view local site files, do one of the following:Choose Window > Site Files.In the Site window, if the site map is showing, click the Site Files button.The pane displaying local site files is labeled Local Folder and the panedisplaying remote site files is labeled Remote Site.Note: If you are viewing a local site that has no corresponding remote site, the RemoteSite pane is empty.To view the site map and the site files, do one of the following:Choose Window > Site Map.(If you previously viewed the map only, withoutthe site s files, this displays the map only.)In the Site window, click the Site Map button, or hold down the mouse buttonwith the pointer over the Site Map button and select Map and Files from thepop-up menu.The pane displaying the local site as a map is labeled Site Navigation; the otherpane displays either the local site files (labeled Local Folder) or the remote sitefiles (labeled Remote Site), depending on the Always Show preferences you set.To view only the site map:Hold down the mouse button with the pointer over the Site Map button andselect Map Only from the pop-up menu.82 Chapter 3Changing site displaysBy default, the remote site (or the local site map) appears in the left pane ofthe Site window and the local site appears in the right pane.You can switchthese displays.To set which panes the local and remote sites appear in:1 Choose Edit > Preferences and select the Site FTP category.2 Do either of the following:Select Local Files from the Always Show menu, and then choose whether todisplay the local files in the right or left pane of the Site window.The local site will appear in the pane you have selected, and the remote site (orthe site map) will appear in the opposite pane.When you choose this option,the local site files view is always shown in the Site window, even when youcollapse the window to one pane.Select Remote Files from the Always Show menu, and then choose whether todisplay the remote files in the right or left pane of the Site window.The remote site will appear in the pane you have selected, and the local site (orthe site map, which is always local) will appear in the opposite pane.When youchoose this option, the remote site files view is always shown in the Sitewindow, even when you collapse the window to one pane.3 Click OK to close the Preferences dialog box and apply changes.To change the view area:In the Site window, do one of the following:Drag the bar that separates the panes to increase or decrease the view area of theright or left window pane.Use the scroll bars at the bottom of the panes to scroll the contents ofthe panes.In the site map, drag the arrow above a file to change the space between files.To collapse the Site window to one pane:Click the small triangle button in the lower left of the Site window.Note: The pane that remains visible is whichever pane you chose to always show in the SiteFTP preferences dialog box.For more information about site preferences, see Setting Site FTP preferenceson page 146.Creating Sites and Documents 83Working with site filesUse the Site Files view to view local and remote sites as lists of files, to open files,to add new folders or files to a site, or to refresh the view of a site after changeshave been made.You can also use Site Files view to determine which files (oneither site) have been updated since the last time they were transferred.Forinformation on synchronizing the local site with the remote site, see Synchronizing the files on your local and remote sites on page 153.To view the site files:Do one of the following:Choose Window > Site Files to open the Site window in Site Files view.In the Site window, click the Site Files button
